I believe there should be purpose in design. I want to know the mission of the client, the psychology of the audience and to create a product that speaks to both. While the end result of all projects may not be groundbreaking, I think good design can help any project stand out.
I have always been drawn to branding. It amazes me how a simple, concise brand can project everything about an institution. Creating logos and systems are areas I really enjoy. Over the last few years I have become more and more interested and involved in digital media . It wasn't something I was initially drawn to in school, but after being in the print industry for a while I've realized the clear value and endless opportunity of interactive design. I never saw myself as a math-minded person, but I find myself wanting to learn more about trigonometry so that I can better understand and write actionscript. I'm picking my way through javascript to the point that I go way too long without using the bathroom because I'm trying to figure something out and I don't want to lose my train of thought. There are numerous languages out there and numerous types of developers. I'm the kind of developer who will figure out what I don't understand.
Over the last couple years I've had the opportunity to manage numerous online projects and a couple print projects. While I've been managing these accounts, projects have stayed on schedule and on budget. Through this experience, I have become aware of all that goes into providing a client with the result they want, while working within the parameters they've set. Doing good work for a client not only involves a great design, but providing good direction as well.
